LIVESTOCK & PRODUCTION
Not every useful farm enterprise belongs in the main cattle-sheep-poultry grazing sequence. RLF is developing several complementary enterprises separately so each can be judged on its own land, labor, regulatory, processing, market, and financial requirements.
Feeder Pigs — Planned
Current planning favors purchasing feeder pigs rather than establishing a breeding-pig herd during early development. Pigs would use deliberately controlled rotations rather than automatically following ruminants and poultry. Their ability to disturb vegetation and soil can be useful for specific management goals, but that same behavior requires careful placement, movement, and recovery.
Rabbits — Developing
Rabbit production is an established planned enterprise with working and provisional assumptions in current farm market and cash-flow models. Potential markets include direct customers and, where legal processing and distribution requirements are satisfied, chef and restaurant relationships.
Breeding rabbits or other live rabbit stock would remain a direct RLF sales channel. Meat and other customer-facing food products would route through the appropriate Cricket Hill Farmstand sales system once available.
Exact production scale, housing, processing, and launch timing remain subject to final operating gates.
Turkeys — Developing
Turkeys are planned as a seasonal poultry enterprise. Heritage lines are being evaluated for their production characteristics and marketing fit. Production costs, processor access, batch size, reservation timing, and final line selection are still under development and should not be represented as operating commitments.
Bees & Honey — Developing
Apiary development is part of the early farm plan. Initial planning begins with a small managed apiary and expands only when management capacity, colony survival, forage, overwintering results, and customer demand justify additional hives.
Honey and appropriate apiary products would be sold through customer-facing retail channels. Apiary management remains an RLF production function.
Orchard & Complementary Farm Uses — Exploring / Long Term
Orchard, silvopasture, composted farm products, educational activity, agritourism, and other complementary uses may become appropriate after land, zoning, insurance, labor, and economics are known. They are possibilities, not current operating commitments.
